Never too old to join a Choir...
wow wow wow, what an amazing night! I feel on top of the world after singing my heart out for two hours. When I turned up, I was asked whether I was a tenor, Alto, soprano, I said I had no idea what they were, let alone where I should be...they placed me in the sopranos!
They sang really high and I definitely felt like I was pushing my voice and wasn't really sure whether I was outside of my comfort zone. One guy Mike King led the 120 people choir and he was a true inspiration. It ran so smoothly and he arranged everyone so perfectly.
Tonight we did Fix You by Cold Play and New York State of Mind by Billy Joel and it was magical hearing everyone together, I especially loved the bass, loved those deep voices. I found myself being distracted mid way though because I just didn't know where I belonged. Was I a soprano or an alto. The altos parts seemed easier at times but I was glad I had the soprano too in other places. At the end of the session, I thought I don't want to keep thinking am I on the right place so I went to speak to Mike. He suggested that we wait for the room to clear and I had a quick session with himself and his wife Carol and we sang a verse from fix you as well as some eeeeee and he said I had a a beautiful soprano voice and had quite a big range too! I now know where I belong and can't wait for next week! Absolutely loved it and so proud of myself for making myself known... hee hee - why did I wait until age 37 to join a choir?! - all those wasted years I listened to to Gospel Choirs in Peckham, desperate to pop in and join in, I could have been singing! Still you are never too old to do the things you have dreamed of and my Choir journey started today.......whoop whoop!!
